New for 2007, the J/122 is a versatile 40
foot performance sprit boat with refined deck layout,
comfortable live-aboard accommodation and built using
superior SCRIMP infusion moulding.
Like her famous stable mates, the J/109 and J/133, the
J/122 promises to be an IRC-friendly
racer/cruiser with competitive performance but there is
already a J/122 one-design rule under development. If
the J/109 is anything to go a J/122 one-design
regatta circuit will broaden the boats’ competitive
appeal to the racing owner. The J/122 benefits
from a simple and balanced sail plan, high quality
SCRIMP construction as well as complete accommodation.
The new J/122, developed with and built by J
Europe in France, is distinguished by the high aspect,
non-overlapping sailplan (maximum size 110% jib) which
simplifies the deck plan and sail selection. The setback
headstay with furler are recessed into the deck to
maximize the jib luff length while retaining the
convenience of jib furling from the cockpit. When
combined with the simplicity of an asymmetric spinnaker
flown from a retractable carbon bow sprit, it’s easy to
achieve near peak performance with minimal crew effort.
The J/122 cockpit is ergonomically optimized with
a floor mounted traveller, below decks mainsheet system,
offshore seatbacks, remote backstay adjuster and a
removable transom dock box option that allows one to
convert from race mode to cruise mode in a matter of
minutes.
Several of her key features include:
• A generous rig with 110% LP headsail and below deck
jib furling.
• Carbon fiber bow sprit and A-sail for short-handed
performance ease.
• Low VCG 7.2’ (2.2m) keel with swept leading edge for
short-handed stability.
• Low maintenance deck configuration with minimized use
of wood, large protected cockpit with long seats and
high backrests combined with floor mounted mainsail
traveler, below-deck mainsheet system, and large
diameter wheel steering for comfortable daysailing.
• Choice of three cabin/single head or two cabin/two
head interior layout with full headroom for live-aboard
cruising, complete galley, proper navigation station,
opening ports for ventilation and plenty of storage.
• Removable dock box at transom for easy race/cruise
conversion.
Two interior plans are available: a three cabin/forward
head layout and the more traditional two cabin/two head
cruising layout; both layouts finished in varnished
light mahogany. Several option packages, tailored to
specific cruising and racing needs are available.
